Common Conditions:

DYSPEPSIA

This is a very common symptom complex characterised by upper abdominal discomfort, distension or pains. There are many causes of this. A good way to search for a diagnosis is to perform a gastroscopy (OGD). This is now considered a very safe test which can be done as a day care/outpatient procedure. Other tests that can be done are the Urea Breath Test for Helicobacter Pylori detection and abdominal scans.

COLORECTAL CANCER

This is now amongst the commonest cancers. The good thing is that this can be prevented if timely screening is done. A colonoscopy is a test that can detect colorectal polyps, which are known to be precursor to cancer, and at the same time remove these polyps by endoscopic methods. This is usually done as a day care procedure avoiding inpatient stay.

Gatro-Esophageal Reflux or GERD

IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME

This functional gut disorder although not endangering, can be rather frustrating and trouble-some. An adequate assessment and multi-prong therapy plan should be delivered to help ease this condition.

There is now a rising trend of this condition which is commonly associated with metabolic syndrome. Some cases of the fatty liver can progress to liver cirrhosis. With a motivated multidisciplinary programme, this condition can be well controlled.
